A change of season and a change of scenery go hand in hand. You probably…
Make Your Minnesota Golf Getaway More Than Golf
If you already need a break from this fall’s distance learning, you might hit up your buddies and plan a Minnesota golf getaway. But this year, think about extending your trip: add a couple friends and family and enjoy even more of Minnesota. After all, the world is kind of your office these days, isn’t it? Here are some ways to add something a little extra to your Minnesota golf getaway for everyone.
Golf and Fishing
What better way to bookend a memorable day on the golf course than enjoying the solitude of the open water and wetting a line? In Minnesota, we’re known for our many lakes. That means just about anywhere you play, you can find a body of water within just a few miles.
Avid anglers will find Gull Lake in Brainerd a real treat – especially with the crisp fall air and leaves changing with the season. In this area, you’ll want to be sure to book tee times at one of the courses at Madden’s on Gull Lake or Cragun’s Resort. Just up the road you’ll find Pelican Lake and the historic Breezy Point Resort.
Golf, Spa and Shopping
After all that we’ve been through this year, you deserve some real pampering. You can find world-class spa treatments at hotels throughout the Twin Cities. No matter where you choose to stay during your Twin Cities golf getaway, you won’t be far from the nearest course. If you’re thinking of something outside the city, our golf resorts have onsite spas or partnerships with nearby salons. Some of Minnesota’s best resorts, from Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria to Madden’s, Cragun’s and Breezy Point, have full-service spas to soothe your stresses and make sure you get some genuine R&R on your next getaway.
Of course, the Twin Cities is well known as a shopping destination thanks in part to the largest shopping mall in the United States – the Mall of America. The combination of spa and shopping ensures time together for your entire gang (even the non-golfers)!
Golf and Biking
While golf may be one of the best ways to spend time with friends outdoors, cycling is not far behind. Winding through trails, communing with nature, finding the rhythm of your breath while climbing a hill, and the exhilaration of a descent will add a new dimension to any getaway weekend.
Some highlights include the Mesabi Trail, featuring over 135 miles of paved trails running from Grand Rapids, MN, all the way up to Ely. On the trail, visit Giants Ridge in Biwabik which also has mountain bike trails and a wintertime ski resort. The Wilderness at Fortune Bay is also a stop along the way on the Mesabi. Britton Peak in Lutsen, on the north shore, is one of the most spectacular mountain bike rides in the state and neighbor to Superior National, also in Lutsen. Another spot for mountain bike riders to explore is Cuyuna in Aitken, MN, just a stone’s throw from the Brainerd Lakes resorts.
For road cyclists, you’ll feel right at home in the Twin Cities. Minneapolis is consistently ranked among the top 10 cycling cities in the United States. Known for its cycling culture, safety and friendliness, the metro area features a network of paved bike trails criss-crossing Minneapolis and St. Paul and well into the surrounding suburbs.
Of course, we believe that a Minnesota golf getaway does just fine on its own, but variety is the spice of life. When paired with more fun activities and a bigger group of friends, you can make sure there’s truly something for everyone on your next golf getaway!
