Offseason Putting Drill That’s “On The Money”

We all know there are two seasons in Minnesota — golf season and the offseason. So, with the leaves falling and the weather changing, it’s probably time to get in that last round of golf and get ready for the offseason. Or maybe just consider it “indoor putting” season, because we have an offseason drill that can really help your game.

25¢ Putting Tip

Rush Creek‘s Aaron Jacobson has an off-season drill that’s guaranteed to get you putting “on the money” — literally.

Aaron says he first tried this drill during the winter of 1990, and his putting from short distance was amazing the following season. It’s all about improving the line of your putts, and all you need is a few household items — and some spare change.

What You Need

  • A putting mat or a strip of old commercial carpet
  • A fiberglass driveway marker (fiberglass stick that is approx. 4 ft. long and straight)
  • A quarter

Set aside enough space for your offseason putting green, because you won’t want to set if up and take it down. Anywhere in your home will work, although setting up the material on a hardwood or concrete floor will give you  the best rolling conditions.

What To Do

Put the quarter out on the mat and the stick next to it to help you aim your putter face and check that your putting stroke is fairly straight back and through, putting from 3 feet away from the quarter.

Now just hit the quarter 20 times before you go to bed each night without missing.

If you miss you have to start over.

Aaron guarantees that if you do this drill all winter you will become a much better putter from inside of 10 feet next season.
