Pro Golf Tip: Finding More Distance

Three Keys to Finding More Distance with your Driver

In this golf tip Aaron Jacobson, PGA Professional and Director of Instruction at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove helps you learn how to find more distance in three simple steps.

Step 1:

With your group on the club set up in a titled “T” position with your spine tilting 5 degrees away from the target address. In this position, your back should be lower than the front shoulder. This tilted “T” position will allow you to turn behind the golf ball and load up on your back leg and sweep the ball off the tee with a good, high trajectory for the maximum carry of the golf ball.

Step 2:

From your tilted “T” set up position, coil your body so that you have turned your hips 45 degrees and your shoulders 90 degrees. In this position, you will have turned your back to the target and will feel like you are loaded up on your backside. The wrists in this position should be cocked to a 90-degree position, with the back elbow also at a 90-degree position.

Step 3:

From the loaded backswing position, lead the downswing with the hips and knees moving your weight to the lead foot and unloading the hinges in the arm and wrists. This will allow you to create maximum power when the weight is shifted and the arm and wrists are unloaded at the ball.

Pro Tip:

Work on the downswing without a golf ball and work on making a whoosh sound at or after the ball. The louder the whoosh sound the more speed the clubhead has come through the impact.

With this simple tip, you should be able to find more distance and improve your game. For more tips and information about improving your golf game check out Rush Creek’s Golf Academy.
