Planning a Fall Golf Trip in Minnesota

Fall golf in Minnesota

Ask most golfers in Minnesota the best season of the year to play and just about to an individual, they’ll tell you the same thing, Fall. September and October are two of the most glorious months of the year to enjoy the game of golf in Minnesota. If you’re planning a fall golf trip in Minnesota we have some advice for you from one of the best sources in the state. Glenn Hagberg, head golf professional at Madden’s on Gull Lake in Brainerd, Minnesota.

In Glenn’s opinion, one quality that makes fall golf in Minnesota so wonderful are the playing conditions. “The courses truly play their best in the fall. The turf has had the full season to mature, and cooler weather makes the surfaces play fast and firm, and temperatures are more comfortable for golfers too! The added bonus is playing when the leaves start to turn. Hands down, it’s the most beautiful time of year.”

Glenn also shared with us a few tips for planning a fall golf trip in Minnesota:

Make arrangements early.

Most golfers are surprised to hear that September is the busiest month on the golf courses at Madden’s!

Get people to commit.

We know it’s tough to be the “organizer.” Make life easy on yourself, have everyone that expresses interest in going call individually and put down a deposit 60-days prior. This will save the last minute scramble.

Create a fun format or “Ryder Cup” for the weekend.

Utilize the tournament coordinator at the facility to create a multiple round format that will be fun, competitive, and most importantly create memories.

If you’re thinking about heading to the Brainerd Lakes Area in Minnesota to play golf, you’ll have plenty of tracks to choose from including golf courses at Madden’s, Grand View Lodge and Breezy Point. For some of the best fall colors, get up to Golden Eagle where they have the highest elevation in the county. Glenn says the best time to catch colors is, when else, the last week in September through mid-October.
