Our Pros Make Their 2016 Masters Predictions

Golf ball and driver

It’s “a tradition unlike any other.” It’s Amen Corner. And the Green Jacket. It’s The Masters, the unofficial start of the golf season, no what kind of weather we’re experiencing here in Minnesota, more than 1,200 miles north of Augusta National.

But after a mild winter here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota golfers have some extra reason to be excited about the start of the season. So, as you prepare to polish your clubs and tune-in to the action from Augusta, here are 2016 Masters predictions from the pros at some of our Explore Minnesota Golf Alliance courses:

John Kendall, Giant’s Ridge:
“All signs point to a showdown of the game’s young stars with Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, and Rory McIlroy all playing well going into the year’s first major.  Of those, my pick would be Rory McIlroy to win the 2016 Masters.  McIlroy is one of the handful of players that can physically overpower the course and his recent play suggests he’s ready to do just that.  He appears to be highly motivated in reclaiming his spot in the game’s hierarchy after being leapfrogged by Day and Spieth last year when he was sidelined with a non-golf injury.”
Chris Foley, Cragun’s:
Since 2003, the year following some major revisions to the golf course, left-handers have won six times. Two of those left-handers are playing very well. Phil Mickelson is leading the tour in scoring average and Bubba Watson has one win this year and is ranked 6th in the world. Adam Scott comes into the tournament with two wins in the last month. Defending champion Jordan Speith comes in with top ten finishes in his last four events. Jason Day has won two of the last three weeks.

Jay Meyerhoff, Rush Creek:
You have to like the way Adam Scott has been playing and more importantly putting.  With the Match Play ending this past weekend, you have to think that Jason Day has a great shot at winning his first Green Jacket.
